Pro/Con Debate
Students read about issues on www.procon.org to select a topic to research further.

Students work in groups of 4 to research topic in class with Ms. Bakey (ELA), Ms. Connolly (Library), and Ms. Borondy (8th grade parent).
Students prepare presentations (create PPT slides and practice presenting orally) during ELA and library class with Ms. Bakey, Ms. Connolly, and Ms. Borondy.

Ms. Bakey sends email to 8th grade parents inviting them to come to a formal presentation of the student debates in the library during the morning of February 28th. 6th grade students are also invited and will attend with their teachers.

Outcomes of Parental Participation:
  1. Strengthen our students’ public speaking skills.
  2. Give parents access to student work and include them in the celebration of learning.
